Cezanne HR, the leading supplier of smart HR solutions for mid and small-sized businesses, today announced the availability of a web-native app for Android mobile phones.
The app, which is free to registered users of Cezanne’s Cloud-based HR software, lets companies offer their employees an easy way to manage HR and work-related activities directly from their mobile.
The decision to take the native route followed extensive testing by Cezanne of alternative approaches to delivering mobile and tablet functionality.
John Hixon, Director of Research and Development at Cezanne HR explains: “We’ve all become much more demanding of our smart phones. We expect the apps we download to perform as smoothly and efficiently as those that our phones are shipped with.”
“While the “one size fits all” approach of responsive HTML5 and hybrid apps can offer advantages in terms of speed to market, we found that they didn’t offer as good an experience as a native development. For example, we found the buttons and screens didn’t perform as expected on every platform, and transition from one area of the application to another – for example from reviewing holiday entitlements to the team diary – could feel disconnected.”
“Since our position is that the user experience has to be paramount, the decision to go native was the obvious one to make.” he says.
The company’s decision was also informed by others in their industry sector who, having taken the HTLM5 or hybrid approach, had decided to redevelop their apps as native.
Using the new mobile app, employees can now check their holiday entitlements and request leave, log sickness and other absences for approval, and view up-to-the-minute team and peer diaries as well as general contact information.
Further functionality, including the ability to post to and receive alerts from the Cezanne’s integrated HR portal and social workspaces, is planned for later this year. A release for iPhone is expected in early 2014.
